two things...

1. i love the snow. really. it is snowing outside, and everyone is complaining, saying how cold it is, and how they can't go anywhere... i love it. i went to take the kids to the doc today (even though the appt is actually tomorrow). it wasn't so bad. it takes a little practice getting the kids ready in time, but since this isn't heavy snow, we get by with galoshes and heavy coats. there isn't a need for snow pants, or balaclavas.
the little bit of snow that we get here, makes me miss Connecticut. i loved hearing the plows come through. i liked taking walks to get the mail, and seeing how different everything looked. i didn't mind shoveling the driveway, or the sidewalk. i like doing work that gets done.

2. i don't like my doctors. i don't like the fact that i can't choose where i have to go, to see a doctor, to be more specific. i also don't like the fact that i can't get an appointment to see a doctor. as it is, i can't hear anything, and when i can hear things, they are too loud. i hate being sick. and i hate being sick, and not being able to do anything about it, even more. hopefully the kids doc will have a looky at my ears tomorrow, and see if my situation needs more medical attention.

huh?

i am tired. it has been more than a week since the cold from hell hit our house, and i am beat! i feel like those experiments where they don't let people sleep for days on end, and then expect them to do everyday tasks and rate them on efficiency. my kids don't feel good, and i know i am not the most patient loving mom right now.

its hard to comfort the uncomfortable when i half expect a man in a coat to walk in and ask me to sort little screws and nuts out in the cold.

ugh.

This is what we did today.

Dr. C thinks the little might have asthma. i don't think so... then again, i'm not a doctor. either way, she is feeling better and going to school tomorrow.

Hanukkah, we only have eyes for you.

really?!?

do you want to know why the settlers had a hard time here? do you want to know why jamestown didn't work? its because this place blows! even in modern times, where i have a pretty steady temperature, everything rots! i have never lived in a place where onions and potatoes turn so easily. if it weren't for the spare instant mashed i have in the pantry, tomorrow would be a mashed potato free holiday! stupid virginia!
i think i need a new coffee pot. not only does it sound like its dying, but when i put my usual six and a half cups of water (to get six cups) only FIVE come out. i don't know for sure, but when your coffee pot drinks a cup in the morning before you do, i can't help but think it will be a long day...

fair.

sometimes i wake up in the morning and right away think, "It's not FAIR!" i feel childish for thinking it, but it's what i feel. it's not fair to have to wake up 27 times because the house is full of snot and germs and teething. it's not fair that my husband isn't home to take out the trash, and i have to do it. it's not fair that the only way to clean the kitchen is to get out of my warm bed before all the others do!

and it isn't. it isn't fair.

it isn't fair to those women that have a hard time conceiving that it was ridiculously easy for my to have my three healthy beautiful kids. it isn't fair to those folks that have multiple jobs, just to keep food on the table, that i complain about feeding my dog. it's not fair to the spouses, who lost their wives and husbands in war, that i complain that mine is away for a night.

it's not fair. to anyone.

and i have to remember to just be thankful to actually HAVE what i complain about.

it's not fair how Lucky i am.

Today is the grossest day.

So out of three kids, three kids have runny snotty noses. Two are hacking and one is going through bibs so fast I am sure dehydration isn't far behind. While desperately trying to get the coffee on this morning Miss Kitty was happily gumming a LIVE CATERPILLAR! Like, it was still wriggly when I pulled it out of her mouth! And since I never wear my glasses I didn't know what it was until it wasdisgustingly close to my face. UGH!
Cut to Mr. J in the bathroom screaming at me that I NEED TO COME WIPE! When I told him "No, you have to try before I come in." he responded with "No. Wiping butts is gross. YOU do it!"

Ah... To be a Mom.

and the winner is....

ME! well... more like me and the family! last wednesday we welcomed into the bright and shining world Katherine Stella Maria! unfortunately there aren't many photos of the event. the hospital wasn't allowing anyone under 18 into the labor and delivery rooms or recovery. and since we don't have a baby sitter or any family near by, the dearest husband was with the kids in the waiting room for most of the labor, and home and sleeping with those kids when Kitty was born. i am kind of bummed out that i don't have photos, but i am more than happy that she is well and good, and a week old today!

happy birthday sweetest!

ITS A CONTEST!

I like to gamble... no... i LOVE to gamble. i have been dreaming of being in las vegas sitting at the monopoly slots at the cal with a stomach full of steak sandwich from mainstreet station. but seeing as how there are no monopoly slots close here, and no steak sandwiches worth writing home about, i though i would have a contest for my friends and family.
you guys get to guess when the wee one will be born, and what the wee one will be... a boy or a girl...
i will post guesses on the sidebar.
the person with the correct guess will win something cool of my choosing, and will get it when i get around to sending it out (i AM having a baby soon you know!). the only rules are one guess per day, and only four guesses. so you can say 2/12 girl and 2/13 boy but NOT 2/12 boy and girl, and only four guesses so other peeps have a chance. first come first serve...

any important info i will add to this post.

Jake was 4 days early.
Liz was almost a week late.

original due date 2/14
modified due date 2/13

oh, and you can either leave your guesses as a comment, facebook them to me or email me...
so... i don't think the WIP wednesday, or the FO friday is working out so well. i have been working on clapotis, and spinning my fiber of the month, but i haven't really taken any pics or anything. i think i am a little preoccupied with the whole "i am having a baby pretty soon" thing. plus i have been grumpy von grumpsville. hopefully things will be better soon, and everything will calm down... we shall see...

WIP Wednesday.

okay, so i am going to try and keep on top of my crafting, and i figured i would "borrow" the idea of a WIP Wednesday post as a way of keeping me on track. so...

this week i haven't been doing much. i am about halfway done with my first clapotis (i am late to the party...) i love that it is easy to keep track of, it is super soft malabrigo, and if my mom decides that she really is allergic to wool, i get to keep it. it should make a nice nursing cover up... we shall see. i love the way the dye broke when i overdyed the wool. it reminds me of seaweed.

clapotis

clapotis

maybe i can actually finish this by next friday (not this friday). it depends on the amount of heartburn and insomnia i guess...

back log

or should i say back Blog... i haven't done much in the way of updating anything since pat has been home. i don't blame him. i would just rather spend time with my family than staring at a computer screen. but now, liz is back to school, and pat is back to work, i don't mind stealing a few minutes here and there between alphabet time and laundry. and so in the next few days i will (hopefully) update with everything that has gone on, and is going on. YAY!!!

christmas is coming...

11.05.2010

and for the sake of my husband's sanity, i am going to make a list. this list will NOT include summer sausage or smoked cheese.

these are just ideas of nice things. i know that christmas is not about presents, but having one thing in my stocking this year would be nice. even if its just a STARBUCKS GIFTCARD and a candy cane.

i would like...

... an inexpensive (like $15) waffle iron. that way we could spend some time making and freezing waffles instead of freaking out that the last eggo got burned, and i can't go to the commissary til tomorrow.

... some nice soaps from LUSH.

... did you know I have a knitpicks wishlist?

... a blythe doll, even if its the blythe loves littlest pet shop doll.

... a clean bathroom and shower.

... to sleep in a couple of times.

... to go to the knit group at panera, and maybe a giftcard there so i can stuff myself with cake and coffee while i knit my dearest some socks.

... yarn school! i have wanted to go for almost 4 years now, and i just keep having babies. maybe this spring?

... for my dearest to take random days off, for no reason at all, other than to spend time with me.

... to win the lotto, so i can pay for everyone's kid's school and college, and my ma can retire.

thats all i can think of...

except for a new trashcan since i just noticed that you broke the lid off the one we have!

edit:11.08.2010

... a pizza stone
